Haikus

I got grabbed this morning to write up a few haikus for AZ Corsairs. I ended up doing 8 of them to create a short story. Seems appropriate to have made a haiku in a piece of eight. Took about7 minutes total, written while off-ice in a 15 minutes game of NHL 10.

For your enjoyment/mocking:

Reales

The sands disappear
Under the frothy white waves
Tide’s in, me hearties

Dead trees and big rocks
Landmarks guiding through the night
To a chest of dreams

Dig fast and dig deep
Infinite potential now
In this wooden box

Treasure is struck!
Humble origins betrayed
A king’s ransom found

Our flagship is hit
Gold pieces chime as they’re rocked
The king wants them back

Smoke floats to the sky
Cannon thunder and black lightning
Set ablaze our hopes

The fleet’s best now sinks
Black powder’s scent hangs heavy
This treasure is lost

Retreat, ye pirates
We lost here, but there’s always
Tomorrow’s plunder
